About Us

The objective of this club is to prepare students for careers in the space industry through experiential learning. The Lassonde Satellite Club is the York University representative for the bi-annual Canadian Satellite Design Competition. This club provides students of all disciplines an opportunity to develop hands on technical skills. Members will learn how to design, prototype, test, and assemble a cubesat. Students will get experience working in software, RF communications, mechanical, electrical, and ACS teams. LASSAT is an open learning environment for students of all skill levels and backgrounds. More information can be found on our Wiki.

Software

The On Board Computer (OBC) is the brain of the satellite, controlling and interfacing with all other systems.

Electrical

The Electrical system is responsible for the distribution of power to all electrical components. As well as the design for custom circuit boards, solar panels, and harnessing.

Mechanical

The Mechanical system is the structural design and support of the physical satellite. A satellite needs to withstand unique thermal, vibration, and radiation environments.

Communications

The Communications system is the RF link between a satellite and a ground station. It manages the uplink and downlink of commands, mission data, etc...

ACS

The Attitude Control System is responsible for monitoring and controlling a Satellites orientation in three dimensional space.

Payload

The Payload is the purpose of the spacecraft. It is unique depending on the mission. It is commonly some sort of scientific instrument, camera, sensor, or telecommunications service.

What We Do

The main objective of LASSAT is to give students hands-on experience working on a real cubesat project. The day-to-day club activities involve collaborating with subsystem teams to design, simulate, and test components. LASSAT also hosts regular skills workshops, teaching students the basics of soldering, solar panel testing, CAD design and much more.

Events & Activities

In addition to working on the satellite, we also host a variety of events. Skills workshops are a chance to learn more about working with software and hardware. We also have video game events and movie nights!

Join The Space Community

Space is a multi-disciplined field. It takes Engineers from all streams to collaborate on a project. LASSAT is an open community where students from all backgrounds can discuss Space and Technology news, share skills, and learn from each other.

Networking

LASSAT gives students a chance to connect with industry professionals throughout Canada and worldwide. Learn more about the Space industry and get your foot in the door.
